The revolutionaries entered Gaddafi’s hometown of Sirte on Thursday and entered Bani Walid on Friday, the two last towns under the control of Gaddafi loyalists.

The revolutionaries had been surrounding Bani Walid for more than two weeks in order to avoid further bloodshed. However, negotiations for a peaceful takeover of the town failed.

Heavy fighting has broken out in both towns, as Gaddafi loyalists have responded with sniper fire and Grad rockets

Earlier, Gaddafi had reportedly urged the UN Security Council to protect his hometown from NATO attacks.

Libya has been the scene of intense fighting between government troops and revolutionary fighters since a revolution, seeking to topple Gaddafi, began in mid-February.
