The Iranian archers lost the final to the United States 221-231 on Sunday to stand second in the second stage of the FITA Archery World Cup, IRNA reported.

Vida Halimian, Mahtab Parsapour, and Shabnam Sarlak shot for the Iranian squad, and Christie Colin, Kailey Johnston and Jamie van Natta represented the US in the event.

The two teams had already met three times, with Iran only winning one of the encounters.

Another Iranian archer in the competition Amir Kazempour also clinched the silver medal in the men’s individual compound section.

The FITA Archery World Cup is a new form of competition, started in 2006, where the archers compete in four different stages in four different countries with the best four archers of each category advancing to an additional stage to for the Archery World Cup Final Championship.

The first stage of the 2011 FITA Archery World Cup was held in Porec, Croatia from May 2 to 5, and the second stage was held in Antalya from June 6 to 12. The next stages will be held in the US city of Ogden, and China’s Shanghai. The additional stage is slated for Istanbul, Turkey.
