The ceremony of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification draw for the Asian confederation was held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro late on Saturday, AFP reported.

Iran’s Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz was also present at the venue of the ceremony.

Australia, Japan, Iran, South Korea and China have been put into seed A of the groupings, according to the FIFA ranking of July.

China is in Group A with Jordan, Iraq, and Singapore, and South Korea is in Group B along with Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon.

Reigning Asian champion Japan and North Korea came out together in Group C along with Syria and Uzbekistan.

Australia is to compete with Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Thailand in Group D.

The Iranian squad may be Group E favorite, but the host of 2022 World Cup, Qatar, and Bahrain, which lost to New Zealand in a playoff for the 2010 competition, will also try their best to advance to the next round.

The top two teams from each of the five groups will go forward to two groups of five, with the leading two nations in each group progressing to the World Cup finals
