The announcement comes shortly after the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, announced his government would recognize Syria’s armed rebels as a “legitimate representative” of Syrian civilians.
Is the UK bent on misleading the world into believing Syria is another Libya using its propaganda arms to persuade the public that the Libyan scenario is itching to recur in Syria?
Last year in February, the British government closed its embassy in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, before the NATO forces began their air strikes and bombings. The closure of Britain’s embassy was followed by NATO bombings on civilian targets which led to angry protesters’ setting the building of the embassy on fire.
Now the British Foreign Secretary is fabricating security pretexts for the closure of the British embassy in Damascus.
“I wish to inform the House that I have taken the decision on security grounds to suspend the services of the British Embassy in Damascus and to withdraw all diplomatic staff,” said Hague in a statement to the British parliament.
Hague himself knows very well that Syria is not Libya as he has already admitted that the two countries are different at least with regard to their military might. Hague expressed his worries over Syria’s strong army saying “the consequences of any outside intervention are much more difficult to foresee,” as he compared any possible military intervention in Syria to the invasion of Libya.
The public are well aware that the differences are not solely restricted to Syria’s military might as the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad ordered a referendum on a new constitution and 89.4 percent of the Syrian people voted for it amid the West’s futile efforts to downplay the significance of the referendum calling it “laughable.”
Nevertheless, the British government is doing all it can to persuade the public that war crimes and human rights violations committed by NATO forces in Libya that secured Britain’s access to the country’s oil reserves should recur in Syria.
