While Tunisians are continuing street protests in the capital against the presence of figures allied to ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in the new government, riot police fired tear gas at them on Wednesday.
A powerful workers’ union has also called for a general strike to force the resignation of the interim government.
Hundreds of people have camped for a third day outside the office of Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi, urging the dissolution of Ben Ali’s former ruling party of Constitutional Democratic Rally (RCD). The premier was the former president’s right-hand man.
Teachers and students have also joined the street protests, starting an open-ended strike.
Ben Ali was ousted in a popular uprising several weeks ago and fled to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on January 14
