“The IRGC Navy, along with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Naval Forces, vigorously provides the security of the Persian Gulf,” said Rear Admiral Javad Mashidi on the sidelines of a Saturday conference in the Iranian northeastern city of Mashhad.
“By being vigilant about the plots of the enemies and maintaining a massive presence in the country’s maritime borders, the IRGC Navy counters any potential threat posed by the enemies and aggressors,” he added.
The Iranian commander noted that the data collection systems of the IRGC Navy reconnoiter all the activities of the US forces and its allies from the Caribbean Sea to the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf.
Over the past month, the US has added five warships to its Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, in an attempt to bolster its military presence in the Persian Gulf.
Washington has been weighing various alternatives to boost its military presence in the Middle East, particularly across the Persian Gulf.
Mashidi went on to say that Iran can easily control the Strait of Hormuz in case of any threats.
“The knowledge of the US and belligerent countries about the capabilities of the [Iranian] armed forces, particularly of those of the IRGC Navy, is merely a small portion of their real capabilities,” the Iranian commander pointed out.
Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
On June 15, Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the Islamic Republic’s naval forces will firmly counter any threat and deal with insecurity single-handedly.
