“If someone is threatened it could have complex consequences, even provoke a conflict,” Medvedev said in Berlin on Tuesday.

Medvedev added that the threat of force could lead to a war “and for the Middle East this would be a catastrophe,” the Associated Press reported.

The Russian president called for calm and the continuation of talks regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Yukiya Amano is scheduled to submit his new report on Iran’s nuclear case to IAEA member states on November 8, revealing supposedly new information with regards to this issue.

However, Amano’s visit to Washington for talks with US officials ahead of submitting the report has cast suspicion over its objectivity and sincerity.

The United States and Israel have repeatedly threatened Tehran with an attack under the pretext that Iran’s nuclear program may have a covert military aspect.

During past weeks, the Israeli regime has renewed its aggressive rhetoric against Iran. Israeli President Shimon Peres threatened on Nov. 6 that an attack against the Islamic Republic is becoming “more and more likely.”

Tehran has categorically refuted the West’s allegations, saying as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.
