Vying with 11 of the world’s best discus throwers in the finale of the 2011 World Championships, the Iranian record holder’s hurl of 66.08 meters propelled him to the third spot on the podium, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

Haddadi’s first, second, and fifth attempts measured 65.29, 64.07, and 65.50 meters respectively. His third and fourth throws, however, were disallowed.

The Estonian Gerd Kanter’s 66.95-meter release landed him the silver medal, while Robert Harting from Germany was crowned with gold courtesy of his 68.97-meter discus flight.

The 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, held in the South Korean city of Daegu, host 1943 athletes, including 7 Iranians, from 203 countries.

The event commenced on 27 August and is scheduled to finish on 4 September 2011.
