In a message to Rohani, the German chancellor expressed hope to see the opportunity arise during his tenure to deepen the existing cordial ties between the two nations

Merkel’s message was submitted to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Western European Affairs Abolqasem Delfi by German Ambassador to Tehran Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg on Wednesday.
In her message, Merkel stated that Rohani’s election raises the hope for a new phase in constructive cooperation to help promote regional and international peace and security.
Germany will continue to cooperate with its international partners to help work out suitable solutions to the existing challenges, the message read.
Germany is a member of the P5+1 group of countries that has engaged in talks with Iran over its nuclear energy program, among other issues. The other members of the group are the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.
In another message to Rohani, Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said that Madrid is ready to cooperate with the new Iranian administration to further expand mutual ties.
The Spanish premier touched upon Tehran-Madrid age-old relations, saying he was confident that the ties will further expand during the tenure of President Hassan Rohani.
Rajoy’s congratulatory message was submitted to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Western European Affairs Abolqasem Delfi by Spanish Ambassador to Tehran Pedro Antonio Villena Perez in a meeting on Wednesday.
In addition, other major European countries, including Britain, France and Italy, have also congratulated Rohani on his presidency and called for closer relations with his administration.
Rohani took the oath of office on August 4, one day after being endorsed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
On Tuesday, in his first press conference after taking office, Rohani said his administration pursues a “win-win” approach to finding a solution to the disagreements over Iran’s nuclear energy program, adding, “We are prepared to enter serious and meaningful negotiations with determination and without wasting time.”
Delegations from over 50 countries attended Rohani’s swearing-in ceremony. Among the foreign dignitaries present were 10 presidents, six vice-presidents, two prime ministers and eight parliament speakers as well as several prominent former officials.
